You've probably had an article or movie smack you upside the head at some point... probably more than once. I know I have, and will again.
The latest such was an article submitted to The Price of Liberty called, An Old-Fashioned, Judgmental, Closed-Minded American Pleads “Guilty”
By Timothy A Thorstenson from American Handgunner magazine.
For many long years I've had to deal with people who call me closed minded, opinionated, judgmental and "old fashioned." All these years I've tried to patiently disabuse them of those notions, insisting that I am a rational, educated woman who just wants to live in peace and liberty.
Well, folks, on closer inspection I find that my detractors were usually pretty right after all... but we simply didn't give the same meaning to most of the terms!
So, OK, here are my definitions. Yours may be different, and I'd like to hear yours. Then we'd all be on the same page, understanding each other a little better.
1. Old fashioned: Respect for and emulation of traditional Americans, those people who would rather die than violate their sense of honor and integrity.
2. Opinionated/ closed minded: Holding carefully formed and nurtured values and ideas based on inalienable human rights to life, liberty and property with non-aggression as the keystone. Not willing to change convictions without serious reasons and significant thought/research into alternatives.
3. Judgmental: Self defense in action. Human rights are absolutes and any violation of them is cause for defensive action which requires clear judgment of right and wrong. Any violation of rights is simply wrong, regardless of what else is going on.
So, there you have it. Guilty as charged. :) ML
