Bureaucrat, Nicely Captured

I adore the web. It such great fun to meander around, or to search for something or someone and discover treasures that one couldn’t know existed. For art lovers, it’s a wonderful way to explore the corpus of familiar as well as unfamiliar artists without needing travel papers and oodles of money.

Yesterday I was doing just that—browsing various artists’ sites—and came across a stunning Dali painting from 1930:

Dali's painting titled The Average Bureaucrat

My only quibble is with the title—he called it The Average Bureaucrat. I think a better title would be The Universal Bureaucrat.

Many more interesting Dali works (and an interesting, if somewhat sketchy, biography) can be found where I snagged this one: Virtual Dali. Be warned, though, it’s a Flash-driven site.

Interesting

I gotta admit, though, Dali kind of freaks me out... I've never really been into Surrealism as a whole, actually.

Same here

Although I’ve not really seen enough surrealist art to have a well-formed opinion. The Virtual Dali site has a lot of work by him that isn’t surrealist, though. I didn’t browse their offerings extensively, but the variety was unexpected.
