A little report on Sunni

Mama Liberty's picture

Just a quick note to say Sunni is having connection problems and there is no timetable yet for when she can get back on line. Stay tuned...

She said something about a January 16th celebration of something here, but the phone connection was bad and I couldn't make it out. If anyone knows what that's all about, please post it!! Thanks!

Jan 16

As I recall, the conspirators were meeting in cyberspace for nibbles and drinks to share and celebrate their achievements and positivity.

Please feel free to ammend the above, and perhaps we can get the ball rolling anyway???

Cheers for 2008!

I remember now!

Thanks, Shaun. I had forgotten that. The older I get, the more my memory resembles swiss cheese...

Should we wait for Sunni to join us or??? Should we start a new thread? Guess Sunni can move our comments later. I don't know much about the software here.

Here's my little victory

I posted it over at Yak Attack for now.

I hope your connection problems resolve soon, Sunni!

My Victory

I just brought my mother home from the hospital today after she had a life-threatening illness. She was gone almost a month. She is doing well, and I am very happy.

I'm so happy she's home Presto!

Congratulations on your, and your mom's, victory. It must feel so wonderful! I hope her recovery continues smoothly and quickly.

Presto's victory is the best

All of these are really neat, but Presto's is the most meaningful. I'm waiting for word on how surgery went for one of my closest friends, who went in to have a mysterious lump removed this afternoon, so I know how you felt before your mom started to recover.

The Jan. 16 deadline motivated me to go ahead and get the work done on publishing my book-turned-podcast, The Imaginary Bomb. I finished polishing it up and ordered the first copy from Lulu.com this morning. Assuming it turns out well, I'll be unleashing it on the world by the end of the month. I posted a pic of the cover over at my blog, Montag.

I wrote the thing darn near 20 years ago and got discouraged by a mere three rejections from publishing houses. It sat in the basement until the summer of '05, when my voice, Warren Bluhm, released it as a podcast. Nobody said they hated it, some people really liked it, so I resolved to self-publish it - and who knows how long I would have waited this time if not for this Jan. 16 celebration? Thanks for pulling this off, Sunni - hope you can join us soon!

Congratulations on the big decision, Kirsten, and congrats to you too, lewlew. As a confirmed couch potato, I know sticking to an exercise routine is huge - I bet you're already feeling better.

So is Montana as cool as everyone seems to be saying?

I agree, Presto's victory is the most meaningful.

Having someone you love so much work through an illness is a huge matter. B.W., I hope your friend recovers quickly from surgery and that the lump is benign. I went in for a baseline mammogram 5 years ago and they found something, but it was benign. The waiting sucks, however.

Congratulations, as well, on publishing your book. I love the cover. It's a huge accomplishment that you wrote it, in its entirety, in the first place. I have approximately 5 chapters (give or take) of a novel done but my vision for it evaporated.

I'm excited for Kirsten. Dedication to a big move is a scary, yet invigorating, experience.

Montana, in my opinion, is wonderful, it's quiet, it's gorgeous. I'm partial to the northern part, nearest Idaho and the Canadian border. The whole state, however, is lovely.

I've been so jazzed about reading everyone's entries. I hope Sunni is back soon to share hers and PintOfStout's victories.

Well done!!!

Congrats BW!!! You'll be glad you did it, and so will your readers.

Post some links here to it!

cheers :-)

Thanks, All.

Thanks, everyone. I also learned something very important, which is to listen to my instincts. I thought that my mom's doc was doing something wrong. Turns out I was right, and the mistake nearly killed her. I will question more, and raise hell when necessary.

Guts feelings

It takes guts to follow that inner voice, Presto, and you deserve more than a pat on the back for showing such courage in the face of the daunting medical establishment.

I wrote this 50 word piece just the other day for AntiSF, but given your topic, thought we might preview it here:

A Great Year In Pharma -

The headline read,

'Research reveals prescriptions drugs kill ten times more than illegal drugs'

Yet when asked if prescription drugs should be approached with the same caution as illegal drugs, Pharma PR’s screamed, “That’s a dreadful message…given the total number of drugs used, the numbers aren’t really bad at all…”

Thanks, everyone!

I’m glad you decided to celebrate without me—it was so frustrating to be offline, especially with little hope of having our connection restored any time soon as 1/16 ticked by. Thank you, Mama Liberty, for understanding my request through the static (and dropped calls) and starting the party in my absence.

And wow, what great things you all have to celebrate! I suppose it’s too late for me to snag the second copy of your book, B.W. ... but please do let me know when it is officially for sale. Congrats to everyone!
